I often get asked by my clients, “Cat, what should we wear?” So, I’ve put together these simple guidelines to help you plan your attire. I am more than happy to discuss clothing options with you and make suggestions.(Mom loved this navy dress with floral print. She paired her daughter in a navy dress and brought out the greens with Dad’s sweater. Excellent job!)
Choose a color scheme. Matching is out, and coordinating is in! One of my favorite places to find color inspiration is Design Seeds. Finding color combinations is much better than going with all one hue (like all different shades of blue). You want your images to have contrast, and you want each of you to stand out, not get mixed together. Try and avoid florescents and really bright colors because they can create a color cast in photos.
Find a focal point. Try and choose one outfit that you really love. It could be your son’s sharp plaid shirt or your daughter’s favorite striped dress. From this main outfit, find coordinating items for everyone in the family.
Mix it up! Colors, textures, prints. It’s okay to play with all of these. Everyone should not be in plaid, but everyone should not be in a solid color either. You want your images to be dynamic and mixing prints and textures will do just that.
Layers, layers, layers! I cannot express how much I love a cardigan – for moms, daughters and sons. Having extra layers allows for more depth and colors in your photos. It also allows us to change up your looks a bit. Vests for boys are also a great option. Leggins under a dress, sweaters over dress shirts – you can’t go wrong!
Show it off! We all have issues about our bodies, but it’s important to play to your strengths and really show off what you’ve got. If you love your legs, wear a dress or a skirt. Love to show your neckline? wear an off-the-shoulder top.
These simple guidelines will certainly help you plan your family wardrobe. Once you book a session, a more complete guide will be sent to you!
